South East Greenway
The South East Greenway is a spectacular 24 km off-road cycling and walking trail along an old railway line.
The South East Greenway is designed to connect the Norman Town of New Ross to the Viking city of Waterford, through the scenic countryside of South Kilkenny and skirting close to the beautiful River Barrow.
The Greenway will provide an attractive amenity for visitors to the area as well as providing an environmentally friendly alternative for commuters into Waterford and New Ross.
The Greenway follows the line of the disused New Ross to Waterford Railway.
Phase 1 of the South East Greenway is now open to the public. The 6km New Ross to Glenmore stretch includes picturesque views of the Pink Rock area and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge.
Phase 2, the 6km Curraghmore to Ferrybank stretch, is planned to open in 2025.
Further sections will follow in the coming years completing the 24km between New Ross and Waterford.

South East Greenway Mural
Kilkenny County Council is proud to introduce the South East Greenway Mural. The 160m long public art installation is located near Ferrybank on the South East Greenway which runs between Waterford and New Ross.
Funded by the Creative Ireland Scheme and inspired by the local area, the mural captures key landmarks such as The Pope’s Tower and Ferrybank Grotto.
The mural was designed and painted by Street Art Ink, who took on board feedback from public consultation events with local community groups.
Kilkenny County Council would also like to thank Graham Carew who assisted during the design and public consultation process.
The mural will be available to view for free on the section of Greenway between Curraghmore and Ferrybank which will open to the public shortly.
Launched in 2017 following the Ireland 2016 initiative, the Creative Ireland Programme is a culture-based initiative designed to foster cultural participation and wellbeing. The Kilkenny Creative Ireland grant scheme supports local and community groups, individuals, artistic and creative practitioners, and event organisers in their efforts to enhance cultural participation and wellbeing in Kilkenny.
