The National Transport Authority and Kilkenny County Council launch Bike Week 2026
Kilkenny County Council is delighted to announce details of Bike Week 2026, which runs from Saturday, 9th May to Sunday, 17th May. The purpose of Bike Week to encourage new, occasional, and seasoned cyclists to make cycling part of their lifestyle.
Among the events planned is a School Cycle in Kilkenny City on Friday the 8th of May to launch BikeWeek. The pop-up mountain bike track returns for the week and local schools will try their hand at mountain biking and grass track racing at County Hall. Kilkenny Cycling Campaign group is hosting a themed evening bike ride, Shorts & Shades Cycle on Friday 15th May, and invite all ages, abilities and bikes to join! New for 2026 is a cycle by the River Barrow in Graiguenamanagh with the Brandon Belles and a meet up in Kilkenny for Brompton enthusiasts. Bromptons are the iconic bikes, popular all over the world due to their excellent commuting capabilities and compact, neat folding design, making it an excellent companion on all forms of transport. Bike Fests will take place in Kilkenny Countryside Park, following junior parkrun and in Ferrybank Neighbourhood Park. Throughout the week, the schools will have opportunities to take part in bike maintenance workshops, escorted spins and Cycle Right training and Community Bike Rides will be taking place with trained ride leaders across the county.
Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling, funded by the National Transport Authority.
